How to avoid bots when promoting your game server
June 18, 2026 · 5 min read
When you promote a server, the biggest risk isn't overspending: it's spending on fake activity. Bots inflate numbers, don't retain and ruin the experience for real players.
Signs of fake traffic
- Player spikes that join and leave instantly.
- Accounts with no history or reputation.
- The same device or IP behind many accounts.
- Identical, repetitive behaviour patterns.
Why in-game verification matters
The only reliable way to know if someone actually played is to check it on the server itself. At BoostLobby we verify in-game presence (players.json on FiveM/RedM, status API on Minecraft) and require a minimum participation time.
BoostLobby's anti-fraud layers
- Device and IP fingerprinting to detect multi-accounting.
- Two-way reputation between players and owners.
- Detection of overly fast submissions and suspicious patterns.
- Escrow payments: if a participation isn't valid, it isn't paid.
The result: you pay only for real players and protect both your budget and the health of your community.
